It’s no surprise that we live in a society which constantly shames women for everything they do. This being the case has resulted in us women having to apologize for every little thing that we do even when we shouldn’t have to feel sorry for our actions in the first place. As a woman myself, I think it’s pretty ridiculous that we need to apologize for things that men would never even consider apologizing for. For me, I know that I apologize way too much especially for things that I shouldn’t have to apologize for and I see it a lot with other women as well. I believe that it’s important for us to be able to live our lives and do what we want for ourselves without considering about what other people may think of our actions. Here are some examples of things that women should stop apologizing for:

1) Crying

In society, women are seen as “overly emotional.” This harmful stereotype makes women feel ashamed of expressing their feelings and emotions at work, to their partner and even their friends. However, your feelings are valid no matter what and you should be able to cry and cope with your emotions in any way that you want.

 2) Saying “No”

Whether that’s saying no to hang out with friends, covering your coworker’s shift or saying no when someone asks you for your phone number. No means no, and the other party should understand that and you shouldn’t have to apologize for that either.

 3) The Way You Look

We shouldn’t have to apologize for looking tired or having messy hair, we shouldn’t have to apologize for our weight or the way that we dress. We don’t owe anyone anything, the way that we look shouldn’t concern anyone and we shouldn’t have to apologize for it.

4) Speaking Up

Women constantly face backlash for speaking up at work and in the classroom, they get shut down every time they try to express their opinions or ideas. Unfortunately, this is the case in many social settings for women but either way, women should not apologize for speaking up, they should use their voice and stand up for what they believe in.

 5) For being independent

Women shouldn’t have to apologize for wanting to get an education, for not wanting to get married or for not wanting kids. It’s their life and they should be allowed to do whatever they want with it because at the end of the day it is their life and not yours. Their life choices do not impact you and therefore, they should not have to apologize for it.
