The actress, Sanaa Lathan, plays Violet Jones, attempts to break free from these boundaries and gain a new sense of identity through the dramatic changes in her hair styles. The film encourages viewers to question their own understanding of identity and beauty, while empowering Black women to take control of their sense of self.
